Your IP and location reflect the network seen by the provider. VPNs and proxies may change these results. Browsers cannot determine your device’s outgoing connection port from a normal web page.

What does your IP reveal?

Your public IP identifies your internet connection to websites. It may suggest a city, region or network operator, but it does not reveal your exact street address. Location estimates can be inaccurate, especially with VPNs, proxies, mobile carriers and shared networks. The checker uses a third-party lookup service; opening this page sends a request to that provider. We don't ask for device location permission.

IP address questions, answered.

A quick guide to understanding the numbers, your network, and what websites can see.

What is my public IP address?

Your public IP address is the address websites see when you connect to them. The checker above requests your current public address from an external lookup service. It can change when you switch networks or use a VPN, and it may differ from your device's private local IP address.

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 addresses use four groups of numbers, such as 203.0.113.10. IPv6 uses longer hexadecimal addresses, created to support many more internet devices. Depending on the network and lookup provider, you may see either version of your public address.

Does my IP address show my exact location?

No. IP-based geolocation estimates a city, region or country associated with a network address. The marker on this page represents an approximate network location, not your precise physical position or home address. VPNs, corporate connections and mobile providers can make the estimate less accurate.

Why does my IP address change?

Many internet providers assign dynamic addresses that can change over time. Switching between Wi-Fi, mobile data, a VPN, or a proxy can also change the public IP address websites observe.

Can I check whether my VPN changed my IP?

Yes. Check your public IP before turning on your VPN, connect the VPN, then select Refresh lookup. If the displayed address changes, the lookup provider is seeing a different public IP. This doesn't by itself prove that every type of traffic or DNS request is protected.

Is this IP checker free?

Yes. The checker is free and doesn't need an account. It uses third-party services to look up your public address and approximate network location. Explore more of our free browser tools, or see how veefivee builds custom software and web tools.
